Job Description

To provide Hardware and Software CAD Systems Administration, Integration, Support, User guidance for core Computer Aided Design (CAD) & Product Data Management (PDM) toolset.

Responsible for the training and standards associated with the use of CAD and PDM toolset.

Responsible for Mechanical Design during New Product Development & Support process. Member of the Technology function, working in Multi-Disciplined Product Development teams.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain the site CAD system, PDM system and all related software, ensuring that systems are available and suitably configured at all times
  • Set the standard for CAD modelling, draughting and assemblies and ensure this is followed by providing guidance
  • Ensure the security of CAD data and check all drawings and models before they are released
  • Advise on upgrades, downtime and other relevant information
  • Functional support for the enhancement, development, implementation, migration, and upgrade of CAD and PDM systems
  • Liaise with third party vendors to resolve issues
  • Create documentation and training guidelines to assist in the operational processes associated with correct use of CAE facilities
  • Perform end user training and serve as a mentor and/or trainer for the staff to ensure CAD/PDM best practices, methods and processes are followed
  • To keep abreast of relevant technological developments and assist in the introduction, benchmarking and validation of new software and hardware systems as required. Champion changes when they benefit the organisation
  • Produce documentation to define the product design, enabling the cost effective manufacture of the design
  • Create Engineering Drawings to details all parts and assemblies (Technical Data Pack)
  • Generate Test Specifications for acceptance testing of manufactured product
  • Support the product design throughout its life, making continuous improvements to improve product value
  • Function as a team member on multi-functional project teams across multiple projects
  • Active member of the Mechanical Engineering Department; working alongside senior members of the team; and continually challenging and improving the departmental processes
Required Skills and Experience
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree / HNC (or equivalent). Accredited by a relevant professional body advantageous
  • Actively pursuing individual professional development
  • Minimum of five (5) years of CAD & PDM administration management
  • Administrator experience of Product Data Management (PDM) Tool
  • ESSENTIAL pre-requisite SolidWorks PDM Professional
  • User of 3D CAD design tool, and associated product data management
  • ESSENTIAL pre-requisite SolidWorks
  • Knowledge and experience of Microsoft SQL would be an advantage
  • Experience training others in CAD skills and draughting to BS:8888 preferred
  • Knowledge of Military Standards would be beneficial but not essential
  • Aware of the gated engineering design process, including, concept design, DFM, prototyping, test and evaluation, verification and production
  • Awareness of business tools such as Enterprise resource planning (ERP) advantageous
  • Excellent team worker, with the ability to work with minimal supervision where required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with confidence in dealing with a wide range of people, including suppliers, designers and senior management
  • Excellent IT Skills, with knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Adaptability to learn new IT skills essential
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks Simulation packages advantageous
